Bio
Hi! I’m Dr. Courtney Koestler. I’ve spent nearly 30 years working in education, beginning as a classroom teacher and K–5 instructional coach in culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse public schools and now as a professor at Ohio University.
My work includes publications and books written for teachers, teacher educators, researchers, educators, families, and children—including my most recent book, Building Community to Center Equity and Justice in Mathematics Teacher Education. I also write a children’s book series that connects math literacy to real-world issues. I’m deeply committed to transforming math education so that all students experience it as humanizing and empowering, rather than demeaning or alienating. I believe critical mathematics literacy is an essential tool for participating in our ever-changing world, and I’m passionate about supporting teachers in making that a reality.
