Description

Do your students struggle with math? What is their “math mindset”? Do they have math confidence and believe they are successful math learners or do they find math frustrating? This workshop tells the story of a two-week, movement-based learning program at a Title I school in Sarasota, Florida. We engaged one classroom of low-performing, third-grade students in the Math & Movement movement-based learning activities and filmed the process for the soon to be released documentary, Can Movement-Based Learning Shift Math Mindset? In this workshop, you will learn about the intervention that led to an immense increase in positive attitudes towards math, a sizeable increase in math knowledge, and an environment where students happily engaged in math practice, collaborated and supported one another. Learning Objectives: Learn about the impact of movement-based learning. Learn about ongoing movement-based learning research studies. Learn how to structure summer learning programs to include brain boosting, whole-body, movement-based learning activities. Target Audience: K-8 Educators and Administrators, Summer Learning and Extended Day Program Administrators, Any stakeholders interested in how movement can be used as a tool to support and boost student learning.
