Description

Learners who struggle are often overwhelmed with how to represent and visualize mathematical concepts, feeling that their way of visualize/seeing math may not be correct or valued. Concept circles are powerful graphic organizers that support diversity in thinking and empower learners who struggle to successfully represent concepts concretely, visually and abstractly. Concept circles provide meaningful opportunities for rich mathematical discourse, and enable all students to value diverse ways of thinking and visualizing mathematically. During this session, we will explore how to use concept circles to empower learners who struggle to deepen their understanding of mathematical number concepts by using manipulatives and visuals in unique ways. You will experience rich concept circle tasks and leave with ideas you can use immediately in your classroom, leaving all of your students mathing for Joy!
