James Lemuel
Description

his presentation invites participants to learn how mathematics can be used as a means to analyze and understand Asian American history. We will examine and learn from Asian American Youth Voices Rising, a city-run youth program serving 6-8th graders in Austin, TX. Engaging in a variety of lesson fragments and student artifacts produced during the program, participants will see how mathematizing Asian American History deepens students' critical understanding and helps them relate the history to their own stories and identities and consider ways to mathematize Asian American history into their own math classrooms.
