In the last few years, math education has been rife with discussions of perseverance, positive dispositions, patience, grit, frustration, productive struggle, interest, engagement, and mastery experience. All of these represent the very best we see in student behaviors. But what do they actually mean and how are they different? In this session we explore each of these and discuss how they are connected, how they are different, and how they come together to transform the mathematical experiences of our students. We also discuss the types of environments necessary for these experiences to manifest.
