How do we identify teacher leaders in our mathematics classrooms and build their capacity to lead and influence others? What steps can be taken to empower teachers to lead from within the classroom and in new roles outside of the classroom … regardless of a title or a defined leadership role? Join us as we explore opportunities that develop the leadership capacity of teacher leaders and increase their influence beyond one classroom, and let’s inspire the next generation of leaders in mathematics education! Session Objective: The objective of this session is to explore ways to identify teacher leaders in our mathematics classrooms and build their capacity to lead and influence others and to examine steps that can be taken to empower teachers to lead from within the classroom and in new roles outside of the classroom. The conversations will stem from activities facilitated within our district as part of an “Emerging Teacher Leaders in Mathematics Education Academy” and/or in addition to identifying and supporting the growth of teacher leaders. Expected Outcomes: Participants will … -Explore and identify the possible roles of an emerging teacher leader in mathematics education -Explore and identify activities to develop the content knowledge of an emerging teacher leader in mathematics education and encourage the sharing of this knowledge with others -Explore and identify activities to promote developing the mindset of an emerging teacher leader to be one in which they lead by sharing what they learn/excel in and by learning alongside other teachers Format: -Whole Group Conversations with Table Talk Conversations
