Students are more successful when they can engage in mathematics learning through relevant contexts. However, we often miss opportunities to engage students in real-world data when teaching traditional math concepts. Over the past year, the Dana Center, Skew the Script, and Agile Mind have partnered to integrate relevant contexts into Algebra I topics, including systems of equations, quadratics, and exponential functions. These lessons were then taught in a group of pilot schools around Texas. In this session, we will review the data rich topics, hear lessons learned from students and teachers involved in the pilot, and discuss ways to infuse data into other math topics.
